Meal Planning Apps We Love

In this day and age of busy lifestyles and long hours of balancing work and personal life, it can be really tough to plan our meals everyday. On top of that, we need to make sure we eat healthy, so we don’t give into those midday cravings and end up overeating in the middle of the day for some quick energy.


While there are tools and apps out there to help us plan our meals, it can become daunting to find recipes and then to actually cook them. For many of us, cooking dinner every night is a time-consuming process. Here are some of our favorite apps and websites that can turn cooking from a tedious chore into a quick, easy and fun process.


#1. Meal Lime - Free with option to upgrade

What’s so great about it? You can personalize your recipes with options like pescatarian, vegetarian and low carb. You can also exclude the foods you don’t like or are allergic to. You can even specify the number of people and how many meals it should cover. It tells you exactly what you’ll need to buy for those meals. It caters to the meal needs of young singles, couples, and busy gen-y professionals. It’s available on both iOS and Android platforms.

Bad news: They don’t have Paleo and Whole30 specific meal plans yet.

#2. PlateJoy - 6 and 12 month subscriptions

PlateJoy is another app that gives you customizable meals plans, grocery lists and optional grocery delivery services through Instacart. They have tons of options like Paleo, Whole30, Gluten Free etc. Of course with all these delicious and healthy options, it’s isn't free. With their plans you get on-demand advice from nutrition-focused personal chefs. Pretty cool, right? If you’re okay with spending a little bit of money for stress free dinners and grocery shopping, it’s totally worth it. PlateJoy subscriptions come in 6-month and 12-month packages, beginning at $8/month.

#3. CookSmarts - Free with options to upgrade

While this is not an app, it’s a website where you can still choose Gluten Free, Paleo and Vegetarian options. You can get weekly meals for free and you also have an option to upgrade. The founder, Jess Dang has a truly moving story behind the company. We highly recommend reading it here. Another cool thing about CookSmarts is that they have a lot of resources such as guides and lessons if you’re really into cooking.
